Facing The Fear of Criticism

Posted by onelife On March - 9 - 2010ADD COMMENTS
Ever had one of those moments when you said to yourself ‘I thought of that ages ago’ when you just saw a ‘new’ product that someone launched. Just had one of those myself. I came up with it when I kept sending messages saying I attached something when actually I didn’t. I kept getting the messages back from friends ‘no attachment’… you know the ones. The Entrepreneur and Choosing a Team

Posted by onelife On March - 8 - 2010ADD COMMENTS
Entrepreneurs are often classified as loners, mavericks who make their own way in spite of and despite others. Fame, glory and money are often seen concentrated on one character who laps up the accolades and plays the public character of the entrepreneur. Read the rest of this entry »

What Apple’s ‘No Boobs’ Policy Can Teach Us

Posted by onelife On February - 25 - 2010ADD COMMENTS
Interesting news this week with Apple withdrawing all sexually overt iPhone Apps. Apparently developers are up in arms at this sudden change of heart by Apple but it should be seen as a lesson to the online entrepreneur. The lesson here is just be careful of dealing with the big Internet companies. “What?” I hear you say. Yep, you heard me, careful you don’t put all your eggs in one basket on the web. Parental Control – Free Software

Posted by onelife On February - 18 - 20101 COMMENT
After a busy few weeks I finally get the time to sit down and write a post. Since that last one I have covered another 15,000 miles or whatever it is (Brisbane to Florida via LA and back), watched the Space Shuttle launch at 4am, indulged on Super Bowl Sunday, with great company and have become pretty sick of airplanes…. but the trip was well worth it. I have been developing the business plan and structure for a very cool business in the US and it was made all the more exciting by dealing with the people who run it. Isn’t it just the case that business is much more fun when you are dealing with motivated, intelligent people? Can’t tell you anything about that one yet, but will use it as a case study in the future. Read the rest of this entry »

30 Hours On A Plane… And What I Learned

Posted by onelife On January - 21 - 20103 COMMENTS
40 hrs of travelling, 30 of those split between two plane journeys. Wow, Australia should not be called ‘Australia’ it should be called ‘Far Away’. As I write this I am ready to take another couple of flights on the return journey and I was thinking about what can be learned from such an awesome trip that is relevant to the entrepreneur. Step By Step Guide To Starting an Online Business

Posted by onelife On December - 30 - 200910 COMMENTS
The searching for ’starting an online business’ can get very confused at the massive amount of information (sometimes conflicting) that is out there. Once in a while you come across something so simple it is quite inspiring. I am quite a visual person, meaning that pictures and video appeal to me more than sounds and text. Although I devour books I am not a big fan of reading tomes of Internet Marketing articles because, in my experience, most of them are a bit too fluffy and short on substance. There are some exceptions of course, but on the whole there is a lot of re-packaged ‘advice’ on the web. Read the rest of this entry »

The thing I like about being a motivated person is even when I am having a really, really bad time of it, I know that there is a strategy to getting out. We all know what it is, we have a chat with ourselves, check our goals, polish up some beliefs and work to change our state.  If you don’t do this check out our free eBook  ‘Becoming an Entrepreneur – Boot Camp’ Read the rest of this entry »

Venture Investors and Why You Should Be Picky

Posted by onelife On December - 11 - 20094 COMMENTS
I was not looking for motivation over the last few days but isn’t it funny when you are not looking for something you find it? There were two things I came across that hit the spot today and I had to share them with you. The first one is an article written by Mark Suster over at BusinessInsider.com entitled ‘5 Things I look For Before Writing a Check‘ which talks about what venture investors are looking for from the entrepreneurs seeking start up funding. The second was the video in this post. Read the rest of this entry »

Belief Systems – ‘Luck’ is Too Random

Posted by onelife On December - 7 - 20091 COMMENT
I have always been a bit blessed. It is, perhaps, an odd word to use but it is the only only I could think of… ‘lucky’ just sounded too random. I mean does luck actually exist? Personally I do think so, chance random events can lead up to what we call luck, but I prefer to think of luck as ‘Where opportunity meets preparation’. In the context of today’s blog post I want to share with you how a positive belief I have always seems to have things work out… even in the darkest moments. Read the rest of this entry »

Get Results Marketing Needs and Wants

Posted by onelife On December - 4 - 20092 COMMENTS
How do I market my business? It is odd, because it is a continuous question, no matter how successful you are, you are always looking for new ways. But the fundamental question to be asked (and I have been asking myself this) is ‘Is my product a ‘need’ or a ‘want’? Read the rest of this entry »

Beware The Lure Of The Pavlovian Business Rut

Posted by onelife On December - 2 - 2009ADD COMMENTS
Ivan Pavlov, the Russian physiologist, won the Noble Prize in 1904 for the now famous research he did into digestion and the nervous system. Basically Pavlov trained his dogs to respond to a bell that rang at feeding time… each time he rang the bell the dogs would be able to eat the food that was before them. What he found, however, was that even if food was not present and he rang the bell the dogs would salivate anyway. Read the rest of this entry »

About Me

My name is David, I am very happily married and have one step son. We moved to Switzerland 4 years ago as we love the country, it is a hub of entrepreneurship, the people are fabulous and the skiing is not bad either!

This blog is about passing on some of the strategies I have learned in 20 years as an entrepreneur, from running a commodities operation producing $300mn per year of business to the challenges of owning a small hotel on a tiny Caribbean island and many businesses inbetween.

Others coaches are excellent at reading books and distilling the content for you, that is great if that is what you are looking for. I give you practical advice through my own successes and mistakes. I hope you find the blog useful.
