This changed for me when I opened an account and started interacting. Yes, I would say 70% of tweets are spam or random rantings, however, the 30% of tweets are a thread of wool from a magical ball. Follow one thread and it leads you to another, follow that thread and it leads you to a site, maybe some news or as it was for me, a truly inspirational story.
I am, and always will be, an inspirational story junkie. Call me old fashioned if you must, but I enjoy reading about, and learning from, other people’s success.
Inspirational Twitterers
My thread of wool started the other day when I was looking for inspirational Twitterers. I figured others would be looking for the same so decided to make a list. Of course I included Tony Robbins, Oprah, Dr Phil etc but I also included some totally unheard of people who I found inspiring. As I researched that list I came across Danielle Herb and her mother Marianne and I was blown away.
At the age of 5, Danielle was diagnosed with ADD/ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder). Her mother, Marianne guided Danielle to natural healing methods. Their holistic approach takes into consideration foods, additives, toxins, stressors, schooling, home life as well as other issues. A heart warming enough story but not one that would stir the heart of a hardened entrepreneur. That is until you realize what Danielle did next.
Taking Action
Not content with conquering her disorder she decided to help others do it to. Danielle is only 15 years old but since 2007 she has been an inspirational horsemanship teacher at the School Without Walls, an alternative school based in her hometown of Live Oak, Florida.
She teaches children as young as 3 years old and adults much older than her how to overcome their fears and self-limiting beliefs through interaction with horses. New research suggests that animals have far more complex and cognitive social skills than we give them credit for and Danielle is using this to reach out to ADD/ADHD and Autistic people in order to help them overcome their challenges.
The web site for Danielle and her mum is Drop Your Reins. I would urge you to visit the site and if you were able to contribute in any way that would be great, if you have a blog a link would be very cool.
The Lesson We Can All Learn
The lesson for me in this story is a very powerful one. I hear so many people make excuses for not getting started on something, you know what I mean; “I am too young, too old, too poor, too small, too big, not confident, not qualified, no contacts, no money, no skill” you get the picture. Here is a 13 year old girl who decided she was going to do something to help others.
With her mum’s help she brushed aside her challenges and went for it. One can only guess at how many lives she has helped directly and how many she will be helping indirectly through her videos, books and through her story.
This is a story, which should inspire you to action. Imagine how your world would be if you could take action like this young woman. Imagine how you could affect those around you positively, through your business, your ideas and through YOUR story.
Life can sometimes be tough, sometimes it can seem that we are fighting against insurmountable odds to make it to where we want to be. That is when the stories of people like Danielle and Marianne toughing it out and shaping their own world can inspire us to greatness.
The things in life you FEAR the most are usually the most worthwhile.

Hi
Thanks for your comment…I would have had to agree with you when I first started using Twitter.. It drove me around the bend but now that I have become more familiar with it, it is much easier to tune out from the spam (and block it if necessary). I have made some awesome contacts on Twitter as well as interacted with amazing people like Danielle and her mum… I am sure Twitter will address the spam problem in time… meanwhile I still think there is huge value in the platform
Twitter = the 2009 Spam link dump
I do not know how Twitter is getting so popular, but it’s basically just used for links to get to the other side.
