10 Great Podcast Shows For Entrepreneurs

Posted by David@OneLifeNoFear On August - 5 - 2009
I have been dragged kicking and screaming into the 21st century over the last few years because of my involvement with Internet businesses and also because of the development of this blog.

Entrepreneur Information

I have always sucked up information like Johnny Five but it was through reading books. Who has time for that these days? When I am not working I want to spend all my time with my family, so reading just seems to get put to the back burner. The only time I have in my day which is truly mine is my workout time. 1 – 2 hrs per day (sometimes longer of I am up early enough) I spend on my mountain bike peddling up hill and then free wheeling down. I love it.

Now, however, I can replace the learning time of reading books and listen… to podcasts. Believe me, if you are an entrepreneur looking for quality time learning you need to get into this. Forget your morning paper on the underground, if you are old fashioned and work in an office (…..people still do this?), get an iPod (I just have an iPod Shuffle) and get listening!

iTunes For The Entrepreneur

If you don’t know how to work iTunes go to the store, there are some good tutorials, or just do a search. Alternatively talk to your kids this will all be set up in their bedroom.

Anyway, here are some fabulous podcasts for the entrepreneur available from iTunes for free. If you search for the phrases I mention and then press ‘subcribe’ next to the show name on iTunes, you will get the latest show downloaded with an option to ‘get’ the rest. Whenever you log into iTunes again the latest shows will be downloaded. I have also included the iTunes URL for those who already have iTunes.

1. The Shoemoney Show. The link takes you to the website for this show and you can hear the podcasts there. On iTunes search for ‘Shoemoney Show’. Basically it is Jermey Schoemaker of ‘Shoemoney’ fame interviewing people and making comment. I like the show, its laid back, entertaining and informative. I would recommend the Seth Godin show in particular.

iTunes Store Link

2. Entrepreneurs- Journey. Again I have linked to the site because the podccasts are there. On iTunes search ‘entrepreneurs-journey’. Yaro Starak is an Aussie who is successful on the web. He interviews other online entrepreneurs who reveal some of the secrets to their success. The Shoemoney interview is very good.

iTunes Store Link

3. Stanford University. On iTunes search for ‘Business Leaders and Entrepreneurs Stanford University’. You will see the blue ‘album cover’ in the results click on the entrepreneurs one. This is a great podcast of Stanford lectures and has most of the top online entrepreneurs in the industry on a podcast at some stage.

iTunes Store Link

4. Internet Marketing Podcast. Another link to the site. On iTunes the search term is ‘Internet Marketing: Tips and Advice”. Bizzarely a fly fishing podcast comes up too.. bonus if you are a fly fisherman I guess. Andy White of Wired World Media and Daniel Rowles from AI Digital discuss Internet Marketing tactics and interviews entrepreneurs.

iTunes Store Link

5. Tyrone Shum. On iTunes search for ‘Internet Business Podcast Tyrone’. Again Tyrone interviews other successful Internet entrepreneurs. This was one of the first podcasts I found on iTunes and I still listen to it even though there are other, more well known, podcasters out there.

iTunes Store Link

6. Internet Business Mastery. iTunes search ‘Internet Business Mastery’. Sterling and Jay talk abut the web, how to make money and various tips about how to make money online. I enjoy the show, sometimes it is a bit over the top ‘chessy’ but the bottom line is that the strategies are great and the show is entertaining.

iTunes Store Link

7. Cambridge University. iTunes search is ‘entrepreneurs Cambridge’. Definately not the Shoemoney show, this is more of an intellectual look at entrepreneurship, as you would probably imagine from the famous UK university. The podcasts interview some of the great entrepreneurship thinkers of the day. I really got into this after being a little sceptical.

iTunes Store Link

8. Yale University. iTunes search ‘Yale Business and Management’. Oddly entitled ‘netcasts’ these are part of what was termed the ‘speakers series’ and are very interesting indeed. Titles such as ‘Building a billion dollar business in China’ and ‘Conscious Capitalism’ give you n idea of how thee podcasts are structured. For the offline and online entrepreneurs these are really interesting and instructional.

iTunes Store Link

9. Entrepreneurship and Business Course. Professor Mark Juliano teaches business at Carnegie Mellon University and this is his step by step course. I don’t know about you but my parents could never have afforded to send me to this University so if you want some free courses from a top University. Listen to this. I enjoyed it immensely.

iTunes Store Link

10. Oxford University – building a business. iTunes search ‘Oxford University Building a Business. I included this for all those people who are looking at starting their own business. This is a step by step guide on some of the practicalities. It is basic but very good advice from the other famous UK University.

I hope this list has inspired you to get online and download some of these. As entrepreneurs are days are full but we should always take time to learn new skills, be up to date on current information and listen to what others are doing. I am sure if you get into a routine of listening to these shows and others you discover you will find new avenues to consider and perhaps new ideas for your business.

Do let me know in the comments if you have an recommendations for me and other readers, I am always on the look out for great podcasts. By the way, below is a fabulous tool from Grooveshark.com, it’s a WordPress plugin that allows you add music to your blog. It does have podcasts on there which like they are fed from iTunes, however, there are not many. I suspect, however, that there will be more soon. I have included the widget below for you have a taste of some of the podcasts above.

About Me

My name is David, I am very happily married and have one step son. We moved to Switzerland 4 years ago as we love the country, it is a hub of entrepreneurship, the people are fabulous and the skiing is not bad either, and right now we are touring Asutralia.

This blog is about passing on some of the strategies I have learned in 20 years as an entrepreneur, from running a commodities operation producing $300mn per year of business to the challenges of owning a small hotel on a tiny Caribbean island and many businesses inbetween.

Others coaches are excellent at reading books and distilling the content for you, that is great if that is what you are looking for. I give you practical advice through my own successes and mistakes. I hope you find the blog useful.
