I have always found that entrepreneurs have many things in common, one of those is the desire to travel. I was walking down a deserted Caribbean beech one afternoon, there was one guy and his wife walking the other way so I had to say hello. Turns out he was a well known politician and entrepreneur.
We had dinner that night and of all the stories that he could have told about his exploits as a politician and advisor to one of the most famous British Prime Ministers, the stories he told, and we shared, were of our travels.
Cultivate Your Desire For Adventure
The video above, which aroused my desire for travel once again, got me to thinking about how the desire to travel manifests itself in the entrepreneur more than most other people I have met. Over many years and knowing many entrepreneurs from all types of business, I have concluded that entrepreneurs have a built in desire for adventure. That does not necessarily mean travel. We can find adventure in a new businesses venture, in solving a problem , in helping friends or strangers, entrepreneurs can, and do, find new adventures everywhere, even in the simplest tasks. But do note that I say a ‘DESIRE’ for adventure. The word desire has a lot deeper meaning than ‘want’ or even a ‘goal’. A goal is something we ‘aim’ for, a desire is something deep within us, something that we would move Heaven and Earth for.
Parents know this feeling, they have it for their kids, husbands and wives know this, they have it for their partners. There are some things in life we would do pretty much anything for. Success then is a simple equation:
You may not be as moved as I am by the video above. You may just see just a guy travelling around the world doing stupid dances in 42 countries. For me I see freedom, happiness, adventure, hope, friendship, fun, love and a host of other positive words that lift the spirit and spur me on to the next adventure.
If you were to do one thing today to spur you on to the next level of success in your life, it would be to find something that you can get passionate about, not merely ‘motivated’ but something you have a PASSIONATE DESIRE for, something that will take you out of your comfort zone, something that will get you up in the morning and make you dream about it at night.
In other words don’t GOAL plan, DESIRE plan. Create something that moves you in a way that nothing else does and I guarantee you one thing; You will not be able to fail, even if you try really hard to do so….

Your ideas about the success( Desire + Action ) i liked that..Yes you were right without desire and action we can’t reach anywhere in our life..
Hi this post really pumps my adrenaline. yeah you’re right that if you have a very strong desire and I guess add dedication then you’ll surely succeed.
Excellent! I love the video. Thanks for sharing. So cool! What a great idea, I love to travel, I will have to do something like this. So cool!
Hi Fergal
Thanks for dropping by the blog and for your comment. I am glad you think that it is emotional, I thought I was being a bit sentimental but I think it has touched people, especially entrepreneurs for some reason…
Excellent blog post. Personally I’ve always been quite goal focused and after reading this post I realise that I need to spend more time on desire planning. The video is most inspiring, it is always emotional to see ordinary people who have found a way to live their dreams.
Hope For Women is a company that I have recently joined. 3 months in it has been a great experience. Its not hard to get up in the morning when you work with such a positive transparent and genuine company that strives to change lives. It has allowed me to enhance my “desire plan” a great deal! It would be great to discuss more in depth some questions I have regarding my personal growth as well as how to continue to network the Hope For Women mission and products. Is it easier for you to do this through email or do you prefer another format (this blog, twitter, facebook, smoke signals, yelling across the pond?)
Thanks again for the great information, looking forward returning daily for new information as well as spreading the word of your experience and refreshing prose to all my fellow colleagues.
