Restaurants, Raising Money and The Web – Today’s Podcast

Posted by David@OneLifeNoFear On August - 28 - 2009
Todays podcast is just me. I moved the latest interview to next week and decided I would answer some questions today instead.I get quite a few questions emailed to me, either directly from the blog or through students that I am working with at the moment. The three questions I had today were:

1. Jeff Winters is opening a restaurant in the West End of London and asked: “I know you have been involved in the hotel/restaurant business, if you were to start a restaurant today what two things would you do”. I don’t profess to be a restaurant guru, I was not particularly involved in the whole process, however there are two things that I outline on the podacst that I feel are very important.

2. Philip Riesen asked “I am looking to raise £200,000 for an online business, where should I go for the funding?”. As a European based entrepreneur there are certain laws that Philip can take advantage of, however there are other ideas that I gave as possible solutions.

3. Lee Grahame asked: “I see loads of stuff on the web about making money from blogging, is it a ‘real’ business?”. This is one of those questions that is becoming more frequent and it is mainly coming from more mature entrepreneurs who have been entrepreneurs offline for many years. Now that the technological element of getting online is so easy, many are looking at projects but are overwhelmed with the amount of information that is being generated by so-called ‘gurus’. We discuss our thoughts.

About Me

My name is David, I am very happily married and have one step son. We moved to Switzerland 4 years ago as we love the country, it is a hub of entrepreneurship, the people are fabulous and the skiing is not bad either, and right now we are touring Asutralia.

This blog is about passing on some of the strategies I have learned in 20 years as an entrepreneur, from running a commodities operation producing $300mn per year of business to the challenges of owning a small hotel on a tiny Caribbean island and many businesses inbetween.

Others coaches are excellent at reading books and distilling the content for you, that is great if that is what you are looking for. I give you practical advice through my own successes and mistakes. I hope you find the blog useful.
