Big Boys Toys Friday

Posted by David@OneLifeNoFear On November - 6 - 2009
It is Friday (at least it is here, the time zone is freaking me out!) so I was feeling all ‘end of the weekish’ and not in the mood to write a post. However, with the move and all, I have got behind on posts so I wanted to do something. In another blog I had about hedge funds I used to do a section on ‘toys’ for hedge fund managers, it was popular so I decided to start doing a similar post here. I have created a section for it too which you can see at the top of the site in the ‘Entrepreneurs Resources’ section.

The idea is to give you some motivation, sometimes we can get caught up in paying the bills and worrying about money, when the solution is to aim high. So here are a few ‘big boys toys’ for you to dream about:

Simulator

From: FAO Schwarz
Cost: $300,000

Simulator

Just in case your not getting enough of a roller coaster ride from the economy right now, this aviation-quality 3-D Motion Simulator from FAO Schwarz seats eight for CD-ROM-driven excitement, including space trips, roller coasters, slot car races, cool–if not downright chilly–glacier adventures and more.

With a fully digital audio-visual system and ergonomic styling, it’s a comfortable and super-thrilling ride for the junior set. The £173,000 price tag would get you a new Lambo and change… but you already have one of those… don’t you?

Ultimate Gaming

Ultimate Racing Set Up

Come on! You know you don’t spend all day writing business plans and creating wealth… There has to be some playtime, and here it is, a fully sick racing simulator. For the cost of a couple of Monaco Grand Prix tickets you can be racing in the office while thinking of your next business adventure.

The simulator’s system comes configured for your choice of Xbox 360, PlayStation 2 or PC. The simulator is customizable for a monitor of up to 42″ and includes a 10″ subwoofer behind your seat, three front speakers and multiple rear speakers.

I have to have one of these…. $5000 at www.costco.com

Personal Fighter Jet!

Personal Fighter Jet

I came across this some time ago and its image holds pride of place in my office as it is on my goals list.

All hail the Javelin Mark 10. Yes! Your own executive fighter aircraft! Being an ex-RAF engineer and also being married to a pilot, I am a bit of an aircraft geek so this had to go on my goals list.

The jet is an executive jet for one plus pilot (of course). It can fly at just under the speed of sound, uses state of the art avionics and has a range of 1,000 miles. A light, quick, fixed wing aircraft, it is powered by two 1,750 lbs thrust turbo fan Williams FJ-33 engines.

From their site: “It has been designed for wealthy pilots who want the ‘fighter jet’ experience but also for the business executive who wants to get places alone and in a hurry”

There are, however, no weapons systems and no ejector seat so playing the theme tune from Top Gun while whizzing to a meeting may be a thrill but if ‘bogies appear at 12 o’clock’ you are on your own..

The accommodation for the business traveller is good… ER..for a jet fighter. The rear seat is 39in wide at console level and 40in at the shoulders. There is no need for a helmet, G-trousers, side arm, oxygen mask, flame resistant undies or boots, so the Armani suit will not become too creased.

And the price.. £1.5mn… bargain!

I can’t make up my mind between….

“Dear God

I have tried to be a good man all my life. Thank you for the blessings you have given me and the wonderful family that I have. I thank you for my health and your grace in giving me a career… but, if you are not too busy, could I just ask one small favour….”

Or:,

“Dear Readers

In an effort to make the process of travelling and keeping the blog up to date may I ask for a few small donations for…..”

Or:

“My beautiful wife

Understanding your love of flying I have gone the extra mile for your Christmas present, however, we may need to take our son out of school and sell the house..and the car… but for you, my love, no sacrifice is too great…”

Dune Buggy

250 Sand Viper

I saw one of these in the window of a shop yesterday and wandered in. They look the best fun in the world! The guy showed me a video of them thrashing one of the buggies out in the Bush and I was immediately hooked.

With a top speed of 35-45mph it is certainly speedy enough to quell the speed-lust inside you. For anyone who races karts you will now that 40mph, when you are sitting a few inches from the ground, seems a whole lot faster than it is.

For $5000 they look like a lot of fun. Check them out here: Team Joyner

I would love to hear of your big boys toys goals in the comments below. If I feature one of your picks on the blog I will give you some link love in the post.

About Me

My name is David, I am very happily married and have one step son. We moved to Switzerland 4 years ago as we love the country, it is a hub of entrepreneurship, the people are fabulous and the skiing is not bad either, and right now we are touring Asutralia.

This blog is about passing on some of the strategies I have learned in 20 years as an entrepreneur, from running a commodities operation producing $300mn per year of business to the challenges of owning a small hotel on a tiny Caribbean island and many businesses inbetween.

Others coaches are excellent at reading books and distilling the content for you, that is great if that is what you are looking for. I give you practical advice through my own successes and mistakes. I hope you find the blog useful.
