I will say that the link checker I use (linkpopularity checker) is a little suspect in some aspects; it doesn’t really do well calculating Google links, but manual checking of the results it is good at (MSN/Yahoo) gives us an idea of the links the sites have. It is, however, a great tool to look for good links, and great sites. Just doing the research for this post has lead me to a few sites where I will become a regular reader.
As a tool for improving your links it is a pretty simple process; just download the link checker and input the websites you are interested in and click ‘update all’ or ‘update selected’ if you have just highlighted one site. You get a list like the image here:
If you click on the link numbers beside the name of the site it leads you to the search engine chosen and brings back all the links it is referring to. Follow those most popular links and ‘hey presto’ you have a bunch of sites to target.
Here are the results for some of the most popular sites I read:
1. Entrepreneurs Journey – Yaro Starak – 7,607,309 links.
I must admit I was a little sceptical about this and I cannot say I have checked the 7,300,000 links supposedly on MSN, but going through the pages it does appear that this figure is close.
2. Problogger - Darren Rowse – 39,000 links.
Was surprised at this figure as Darren seems to be put forward by most of the rest of the list as the main man when it comes to blogging.
3. Copyblogger – Brian Clark – 1,487,000.
Beautiful prose, great articles, this is more like a magazine than a blog… it is just really well written. Some great guest posts too The article on Eminem, by Sean Platt, is excellent.
4. Shoemoney – Jeremy Schoemaker – 330,000 links.
I thought this would be off the scale with links, Shoemoney is probably one of the most talked about Internet celebs.
5. Johnchow.com – John Chow – 367,000 links.
In my interview with John Chow we discussed his background and his philosophy about how he makes money online. Love him or hate him you have to admit he is pretty relentless at what he does… the sign of a true entrepreneur.
6. Incomediary.com – Michael Dunlop – 25,125
Awesomeness abounds on Michael’s blog. I like the feel of his blog, it exudes high energy which seems an odd thing to say about a blog, but have a look and you will see what I mean.. thought there would be more links though.
7. Dailyblogtips.com – Daniel Scocco – 1,770,000 links
I enjoy this blog very much, great content, cool tips = lots of links.
8. Bloggingpro.com – 145,000 links
Just came across this site recently and have enjoyed the content very much.
9. DoshDosh.com – Maki – 2,220,000 links
In depth blog posts with some very, very god information. I would recommend this post on influencing people.
10. Business-opportunities.biz – Dane Carlson – 29,300,000
Who? – Yep that is what I said, but with over 15,000 posts on his blog and some great information to go along with it, there is no surprise that he tops our list by a long, long way.
Hope you found these useful, if you have any feedback or suggestions of sites (I love discovering new awesome sites) let me know through Tweetboard or in the comments section below.

Both SEO and blogging are near and dear to my heart!
You’ll find that the Yahoo! Site Explorer tool or Majestic SEO tool are really the only tools worth using. As a rule, Google only will show you sub sampling of a website’s links. MSN are not accurate nor forthcoming.
