Belief Systems – ‘Luck’ is Too Random

Posted by onelife On December - 7 - 2009
I have always been a bit blessed. It is, perhaps, an odd word to use but it is the only only I could think of… ‘lucky’ just sounded too random. I mean does luck actually exist? Personally I do think so, chance random events can lead up to what we call luck, but I prefer to think of luck as ‘Where opportunity meets preparation’. In the context of today’s blog post I want to share with you how a positive belief I have always seems to have things work out… even in the darkest moments.

Let me give you an example. I was 20, broke and I just spent all my money on News Years Eve partying. Myself and a pal slept in an office and woke up with no money at all… not even a couple of pounds to get back to my pal’s house.

We started to walk passed a bunch of office buildings when a huge wind blew up sending leaves, rubbish and other detritus in a whirlwind around us. I turned to my pal with that hung over look of ‘what else can go wrong?’…. He, rather than being as despressed as I, had a huge smile on his face and was pointing at my chest and muttering some expletive. I looked down and there, flat on my chest in the wind, was a £20 note. The trip home and New Year’s Day Lunch.. sorted.

This is just one of the things that has happened and that have always made me think that ‘things will always work out’. This, perhaps, is the belief underpinning the successes I have had in my businesses and it is probably at the root of many of those that were not so successful.

How is this useful to you, the entrepreneur? Well lets look at the positive side:

1. Believe in Yourself

– If you want to get anywhere in life, you have to believe in yourself. Developing and nuturing the belief that ‘everything will work out’ as a way of being able to neutralise fears and concerns about getting started, will be hugely helpful to you in your business life.

2. Rationlise Risk

- Risk is evident in any business you go into, even if it doesn’t cost you much to do it, like a blog for example. The risk you are taking in this instance is time, motivation and your future view of yourself. If the project ‘fails’ how will you view yourself?

This fear is one of the most crippling for people starting out in business, the fear of failure leads to not taking any action. If you can take on the belief that ‘things will always work out’ this fear will have no power over you.

3. Less Stress

– We spend an innordinate amount of time worrying about things that have not happened or may not happen and, in a lot of cases, are unlikely to happen. Training yourself to believe that things will work out for you and being positive about your outcomes will lower your stress levels and allow you to focus your mind.

4. You Will Be More Open To Opportunity

– You can’t teach this, believe me I have tried, but you can influence belief systems that have stopped people being more open to opportunity. Being positive about the outcome of a situation, about exploring opportunities with a more open mind will, I guarantee, make you wealthier.

The world is a balance. Having a belief that ‘everything will work out’ can have negative effects that you need to be aware of in order to be able to combat them.

1. More Trusting

– be careful of being too trusting of people. I have often not done enough research into a situation because of this positive belief.

2. More risk taking

- ‘If you are going to make an omlette, you have to break some eggs‘ is a saying I am found of. To me it means that you have to take risks and make mistakes, the consequences of this can be painful. Have a balance between being more open to opportunity and being reckless.

These are the main negatives of holding a positive belief such as ‘everything will work out’. It will help you more than hinder you.

How do you get a belief like this?

Well, I wish I could point you to a sales page where you could download that belief for $19.95. If I could I would be worth a fortune, unfortunately, until we have Matrix-like download capabilities you are going to have to do some work.

Our free eBook ‘How To Become An Entrepreneur – Boot Camp’ will give you tools to be able to embed a positive belief like this and set you up to further successes in your life.

Just a final point – Do remember what we are not talking about here is a ‘positive attitude’ in the fluffy ‘be more happy’ sense. If you truly want to be more positive then it is beliefs like this that you need to embed in your subconcious, once you do this starting your business, being a better sales person, better marketer or whatever it is you are trying to achieve, will become a whole lot easier.

Luck has very little to do with having a successful business. It’s trial and error, hard work and tirelessly improving your business.
