Step By Step Guide To Starting an Online Business

Posted by David@OneLifeNoFear On December - 30 - 2009
The searching for ‘starting an online business’ can get very confused at the massive amount of information (sometimes conflicting) that is out there. Once in a while you come across something so simple it is quite inspiring. I am quite a visual person, meaning that pictures and video appeal to me more than sounds and text. Although I devour books I am not a big fan of reading tomes of Internet Marketing articles because, in my experience, most of them are a bit too fluffy and short on substance. There are some exceptions of course, but on the whole there is a lot of re-packaged ‘advice’ on the web.

I came across a site today that I thought was just going to be more of the same. Carl Ocab ‘The KidBlogger’ is a 14 year old who blogs about making money online. I signed up for his ‘Master Plan’ and then received a PDF which I saw was a whole 7 pages long. I yawned and began flicking through it expecting some distilled version of something I had seen before. I wasn’t dissapointed, but I was surprised and then impressed.

Below is the simple chart that Carl calls his Masterplan. It’s simplicity, in my opinion, is genius and reading it will save you hours of going through some of the information available on the web.

Start from ‘Find a profitable niche’ and follow the arrow upwards. When you have reached the end go to the next block (Start a blog) and repeat until you reach the last block. Below the graphic I have added a table with links to tools, resources and articles that may help you in the process of following this formula.

I remember Carl from back in the day – another top “kid-blogger” is Linus Rylander.. he has some great reports as well and some decent videos.. So offer a dessert is giving something for free, like samples and then hopefully the prospect, or the freemium model, like basecamp and highrise…

About Me

My name is David, I am very happily married and have one step son. We moved to Switzerland 4 years ago as we love the country, it is a hub of entrepreneurship, the people are fabulous and the skiing is not bad either, and right now we are touring Asutralia.

This blog is about passing on some of the strategies I have learned in 20 years as an entrepreneur, from running a commodities operation producing $300mn per year of business to the challenges of owning a small hotel on a tiny Caribbean island and many businesses inbetween.

Others coaches are excellent at reading books and distilling the content for you, that is great if that is what you are looking for. I give you practical advice through my own successes and mistakes. I hope you find the blog useful.
