I think the attraction, certainly for me, is to hear how these successful people managed their mental attitude while developing and executing their business. The one thing that is consistant whomever you talk to in this sphere is the fact that there were failures and struggles.
Just some examples off the top of my head are Sir James Goldsmith. He was a billionaire financier who came from a priviledged background but almost went bankrupt early on after he had sold generic drugs on credit notes to pharmacies. All went well and he looked to have saved his struggling business when all of these orders were cancelled when the big drug companies threatened to withdraw their brands from the stores who had bought the generic drugs. The banks withdrew credit facilities and caused the near collapse of the business. It was only a banking strike that helped Golsdsmith buy more time to sort the business out.
Sir Richard Branson was arrested for dodging VAT on the sale of records from his early shops. He took this in his stride and created the behemoth that is the Virgin group of companies today.
James Dyson, of Dyson vacuum cleaner fame, created a billion dollar business after his idea was rejected by all of the major manufacturers.
The list of ‘come backs’ like this is endless. I guess it just points to the fact that becoming an successful entrepreneur is about being able to stand up when you are knocked down. A Chinese proverb says “Fall down seven times, get up eight.” That is good statement to have in your mind.
Just to top of today’s short post, here is a video I found with a few short extracts from various entrepreneurs along the same theme. Enjoy

So motivational , that statistic about dyson vaccums is nuts
Yea, it is the mental attitude that matters.
And I like the phrase so much, “fall down 7 times, wake up the 8th times”.
Hope this year is going to be a big and interesting year for me.
Thanks for your inspiring post.
Shawn

@Brett – thanks for the comment Brett – podcasts will be coming soon.
@Hi Jon. James Cameron is a good one.. All the podcasts will go out on the blog and through our iTunes channel which you can subscribe to here:
The Podcast For Entrepreneurs
Sir Richard is amazing in so many ways… I’d also include James Cameron to this as well, he took a chance with Titanic and that turned-out great for him… he then gambled on all that success with Avatar and the results have been spectacular for him. I’m hoping the podcasts will be made available by iTunes
