Step By Step Guide To Starting an Online Business

Posted by onelife On December - 30 - 2009
The searching for ’starting an online business’ can get very confused at the massive amount of information (sometimes conflicting) that is out there. Once in a while you come across something so simple it is quite inspiring. I am quite a visual person, meaning that pictures and video appeal to me more than sounds and text. Although I devour books I am not a big fan of reading tomes of Internet Marketing articles because, in my experience, most of them are a bit too fluffy and short on substance. There are some exceptions of course, but on the whole there is a lot of re-packaged ‘advice’ on the web. Read the rest of this entry »

Belief Systems – ‘Luck’ is Too Random

Posted by onelife On December - 7 - 2009
I have always been a bit blessed. It is, perhaps, an odd word to use but it is the only only I could think of… ‘lucky’ just sounded too random. I mean does luck actually exist? Personally I do think so, chance random events can lead up to what we call luck, but I prefer to think of luck as ‘Where opportunity meets preparation’. In the context of today’s blog post I want to share with you how a positive belief I have always seems to have things work out… even in the darkest moments. Read the rest of this entry »

The Best Tool For Squeeze Pages?

Posted by onelife On November - 25 - 2009
In 2006 I was looking for a way to build a site that I could administer virtually by myself, so I went on to a well known freelancer site and asked for some designs. I got in touch with a designer from the Philippines and he introduced me to Wordpress. Even though the old Wordpress looks like a dog compared to the latest version, it was love at first site. Building Links And How The Top Bloggers Can Help You

Posted by onelife On November - 24 - 2009
I never really understood the link building process of an online business until I read somewhere that each link ‘is like a vote for you in Google’s ranks. The ones with the most quality votes get top billing’. This made sense to me so I went about the link building process and will be using outsourcing to keep this process going (in fact to lift it beyond my efforts). I did, however, want to see how other sites ranked on links to their site so I downloaded a link checker and started delving through. Read the rest of this entry »

I get a lot of questions about how to write a business plan. Who should write them, what should be included etc. There was also a question over at the Business Advice Forum about whether this should be outsourced. Having looked at thousands of plans and written many myself, I offer some tips I have picked up along the way and recommend some resources I have used for a long time that help immensely. Big Boys Toys Friday

Posted by onelife On November - 6 - 2009
It is Friday (at least it is here, the time zone is freaking me out!) so I was feeling all ‘end of the weekish’ and not in the mood to write a post. However, with the move and all, I have got behind on posts so I wanted to do something. In another blog I had about hedge funds I used to do a section on ‘toys’ for hedge fund managers, it was popular so I decided to start doing a similar post here. I have created a section for it too which you can see at the top of the site in the ‘Entrepreneurs Resources’ section. Read the rest of this entry »

Posted by onelife On October - 27 - 2009
Here is the routine you will go through as an offline entrepreneur: Think of an idea, create a plan, find like minded people to help you, find investors, meet loads and loads of fakers and wasters, get depressed, forge ahead, get excited again, meet more wasters, get depressed, borrow money, make a sale, get excited, meet more wasters, make more sales, get really excited, meet some genuine people, get investors, bring on great employees, sack some people who are not performing, deal with them slagging you off, get depressed, make more sales, get excited….. I think you can see where this is going. Read the rest of this entry »

Carbon Emission Trading – Opportunity?

Posted by onelife On September - 22 - 2009
Here is something for you… carbon emissions. Yeah.. didn’t make any sense to me until recently either, however I have a golden rule of entrepreneurship: If I start getting random calls on a subject or certain coincidences accumulate around a subject then it is time to look into it further. Call it intuition, luck, fate or just good entrepreneurial practice, I take this kind of thing seriously. Read the rest of this entry »

About Me

My name is David, I am very happily married and have one step son. We moved to Switzerland 4 years ago as we love the country, it is a hub of entrepreneurship, the people are fabulous and the skiing is not bad either!

This blog is about passing on some of the strategies I have learned in 20 years as an entrepreneur, from running a commodities operation producing $300mn per year of business to the challenges of owning a small hotel on a tiny Caribbean island and many businesses inbetween.

Others coaches are excellent at reading books and distilling the content for you, that is great if that is what you are looking for. I give you practical advice through my own successes and mistakes. I hope you find the blog useful.
