When You Don’t Have A Mind Of Your Own, Everybody Becomes Your Adviser

There was one thing common to most of the people who kept offering me advice, that I gradually came to realize – especially after following some of it and suffering unbelievable hardship as a result. It was the fact that few (if any) of them had done what I was trying to do before – or even knew anyone who had, remotely.

Entrepreneurs Lessons: Yaro Starak At The Hive

Posted by David@OneLifeNoFear On June - 4 - 2010
I popped over to Yaro’s blog this morning,(as I usually do- it is awesome) and on his sidebar found something that made my day. Before I show you that… background story; I started OneLifeNoFear about a year ago and while I was learning about blogging I came across Yaro’s site. I found it through a podcast on iTunes. Since then I have followed Yaro’s blog and teachings.

Building a hotel in the Caribbean was fraught with danger. Each day at least one worker would threaten to ‘mash’ me up while waving a machete in my general direction. A local crime figure turned up at our half built hotel at 3am in the morning, drunk with five or six equally drunk and high hangers on demanding money and one of our English staff had a rock thrown at his head outside a nightclub. Limiting Beliefs – Are They That Bad?

Posted by David@OneLifeNoFear On May - 6 - 2010
Yesterday I posted ‘Objects of Desire and Why You Need Them‘ from which I expected to get some comments that talked about recession, maybe a few about being too material etc. But the first comment was from Tom who made a very good point and something that I wanted to cover today. Objects of Desire – And Why You Need Them.

Posted by David@OneLifeNoFear On May - 5 - 2010
At any time of financial struggle it becomes unfashionable to talk about ‘things’. You know ‘material possessions’ as they are called when we are trying to show that we don’t value them. The fact is that unless you have a desire to achieve something or acquire something, it is unlikely you will. Make sense? Read the rest of this entry »

Going Public – Grab Your Chips It’s Casino Time!

Posted by David@OneLifeNoFear On March - 25 - 2010
One of the things that may surprise many people about entrepreneurs is that most know nothing about the stock market. You would think that entrepreneurs would be up on everything IPO or reverse merger but very few, in my experience, have any clue about what can be done or indeed, what should be done when it comes to thinking about the markets. So let me take you on a magical mystery tour of the worlds greatest casino. I could write forever on this subject so I am going to split it up into a number of posts. Read the rest of this entry »

Motivational Video – Do It!

Posted by David@OneLifeNoFear On December - 21 - 2009
The thing I like about being a motivated person is even when I am having a really, really bad time of it, I know that there is a strategy to getting out. We all know what it is, we have a chat with ourselves, check our goals, polish up some beliefs and work to change our state.  If you don’t do this check out our free eBook  ‘Becoming an Entrepreneur – Boot Camp’ Read the rest of this entry »

Venture Investors and Why You Should Be Picky

Posted by David@OneLifeNoFear On December - 11 - 2009
I was not looking for motivation over the last few days but isn’t it funny when you are not looking for something you find it? There were two things I came across that hit the spot today and I had to share them with you. The first one is an article written by Mark Suster over at BusinessInsider.com entitled ‘5 Things I look For Before Writing a Check‘ which talks about what venture investors are looking for from the entrepreneurs seeking start up funding. The second was the video in this post. Read the rest of this entry »

Belief Systems – ‘Luck’ is Too Random

Posted by David@OneLifeNoFear On December - 7 - 2009
I have always been a bit blessed. It is, perhaps, an odd word to use but it is the only only I could think of… ‘lucky’ just sounded too random. I mean does luck actually exist? Personally I do think so, chance random events can lead up to what we call luck, but I prefer to think of luck as ‘Where opportunity meets preparation’. In the context of today’s blog post I want to share with you how a positive belief I have always seems to have things work out… even in the darkest moments. Read the rest of this entry »

Posted by David@OneLifeNoFear On December - 4 - 2009
How do I market my business? It is odd, because it is a continuous question, no matter how successful you are, you are always looking for new ways. But the fundamental question to be asked (and I have been asking myself this) is ‘Is my product a ‘need’ or a ‘want’? Read the rest of this entry »

Posted by David@OneLifeNoFear On November - 30 - 2009
Aspiring entrepreneurs and those who are already in business need to constantly re-evaluate their attitude towards what they do. Limiting beliefs, or even in some cases convictions, can hold back your business and your life. Read the rest of this entry »

About Me

My name is David, I am very happily married and have one step son. We moved to Switzerland 4 years ago as we love the country, it is a hub of entrepreneurship, the people are fabulous and the skiing is not bad either, and right now we are touring Asutralia.

This blog is about passing on some of the strategies I have learned in 20 years as an entrepreneur, from running a commodities operation producing $300mn per year of business to the challenges of owning a small hotel on a tiny Caribbean island and many businesses inbetween.

Others coaches are excellent at reading books and distilling the content for you, that is great if that is what you are looking for. I give you practical advice through my own successes and mistakes. I hope you find the blog useful.
